I often feel stupid for not knowing when my friends' holidays are, but this year a Jewish friend of mine thanked me for asking, because she never remembers unless she checks the calendar herself. As I researched what Hanukkah was all about ( I couldn't remember what the eight days/eight candles thing represented) I ran across a list that reminded me we pretty much wouldn't have western culture as we think of it without Jewish people. If you want to learn more about Hanukkah, of course there's Wikipedia, but this page on Koach.org was informative too, with tidbits like "Hanukkah is a minor holiday with the same theme as most Jewish holidays. They tried to kill us, we survived, let's eat.". And by the way, Jews didn't kill your saviour, but Disney's out to kill Santa.
